The Renaissance of Made to Measure
With a huge backlash against mass production, luxe, well-made, products are back in demand. Whereas fast, disposable fashion was once the main stay, it looks as if consumers are becoming more considered in their shopping habits. Illustrated in the Telegraph yesterday, traditional bespoke and made to measure services are undergoing somewhat of a rennaisance: "Traditional bespoke - the sort found on Savile Row - is still an expensive option for the average consumer, which is why we're seeing the arrival of a new generation of services that aren't stuffy or pricey, but attainable. Even the term itself is being used more lightly."
We're extremely chuffed - the broadsheet has even quoted our very own Philip on the matter:"Traditional bespoke is when something is made from scratch for you, with a block and an original pattern," says Philip Start, who has just launched Start Tailoring, a made-to-measure boutique in east London."Customising a style from a template, as many brands are doing now, is called 'made to measure'. A lot of people get confused." "
