New Designer: Lucy Hutchings

Lucy Hutchings necklace online at Start Lucy Hutchings jewellery is a new arrival here at Start boutique, and boy is it a welcome one! Having trained as a silversmith during her final years at school, she was fortunate enough to be able to hone her craft in the school’s large silversmith studio. A few years later, she went on to study 3D Craft at the University of Brighton, from which she graduated this summer.

Her first collection comprises five different pieces, each handmade and designed by Lucy herself. Utilising both the natural and manmade, Lucy’s magical necklaces’ feature exotic bird feathers, Swarovski crystal, and a long chain as their main focal points. Each piece in the range of beautiful pendants brings to mind sublime references of folkloric charm, so much so, that we can't help but think the earthly colours will bring the wearer some good luck and protection. Blue- a colour thought to slow pulse rates down and lower body temperatures, unsurprisingly represents peace, tranquillity and trust. While green is favoured for its connections to youth, fertility and of course, good luck.

Lucy took some time out of her busy schedule to tell us a little bit more about the collection, which is available to buy in-store and online. So, what keeps the young jeweller creative? “I’m really inspired by materials; juxtaposing the natural and manmade; making something wearable but exciting. I wanted to design something different that anyone can wear, appealing to the East-end fashionista who experiments, but also to someone who is more conservative, who can wear it as a feature piece.”

Look out for her appearing in Grazia over the next couple of weeks. The glossy mag love these beauties as much as we do, and will be doing a feature on them very soon. We predict great things for this talented lady- watch this space!
