Vanessa Bruno

The Designer:
A former model, the Parisian born and based designer, was destined for the fashion world: her father was the founder of French fashion house Emmanuelle Khan (think Mary Quant but Gaellic). Her comfortable stylish clothing and a penchant for blending fabrics has won her a fans the world over including Gwyneth Paltrow and Vanessa Paradis. She opened her first store in Japan before setting up a boutique in Paris and has ventured into footwear and accessories.

The Inspiration:
The winter collection 2007/08 plays with the contrast between a rough and sacred medieval feeling and the modern urban environment. The main inspiration is  the strength and poetic fragility of ancestral nature, as well as the graphic architecture of the futuristic metropolis.

The Look:
Always contemporary with a feminine touch, Vanessa Bruno is renowned for her quirky, tactile pieces. A master at blending materials, for Winter 07 Bruno’s fabrics have a raw and rustic feel mingling soft wool and light and woven silks. Construction is focused around the idea of architectural shapes with silhouettes of contemporary warriors. Her garments have jewellery embroidery to achieve a medieval feeling, and the shoulders and sleeves of dresses and blouses have a petal effect to give the illusion of fragile armour. Skirts are tulip shaped with a coherent feeling of fragility and mysterious nostalgia.
