Rick Owens

The Designer: Known for his grungy designs, Rick Owens, the long-haired Paris-based American designer launched his label in 1994. After a two-year stint at Parsons LA, he left to focus on a pattern making course. His resume includes winning the Council of Fashion Designers of America Perry Ellis Emerging Talent in 2002. The favourite of many rock stars such as Courtney Love and Madonna, he is currently the Artistic Director of Revillon the French fur brand founded in 1723

The Inspiration: "I was looking at the work of the French cartoonist Sens, who did caricatures lampooning Poiret women as insects," said Rick of his Autumn Winter 2007 collection.

The Look: It’s grunge meets glamour for Rick Owens. The designer is also well known for his functional clothing.
