| RAF by Raf Simons The Designer: Belgian-born Raf Simons studied industrial design at the Antwerp Royal Academy and showed his first collection of menswear on the catwalks in 1995. He became known for his deconstructed takes on punk and goth and was part of the wave of avant-garde Belgian designers touting high-concept clothes with precision cuts. Simons delivered his youthful line RAF by Raf Simons in Summer 2006 and his first women’s collection in Winter 2006. The Inspiration: Clothes aren’t the core of Simon’s universe. He views attitudes, moods and statements taken from music, art, images and words as inspirational, citing rebellion of past and present youth cultures as strong influences. The Look: A more casual take on his mainline collection, RAF by Raf Simons focuses on the same repertoire: punk and goth looks blended with immaculate tailoring. Designed for: Responsible for reinvigorating Jil Sander when he was appointed creative director in 2005. |
