A family run business even to this day, they have a worldwide reputation for producing the finest quality British-made knitwear. The Look: Classic knitwear with an extremely fine knit and luxurious feel. John Smedley is one of the few knitwear companies world-wide that have mastered the time-consuming and very complex process of 30-gauge knitting. 30 needles per inch are used for this procedure, making ordinary “fine knitting” at only 21 gauge almost coarse by comparison. And the sensitive knitting machines will accept only the very finest pure merino wool from Australian sheep – anything else would bring them to a standstill. |
