Aquascutum
Acquascutum

The Label:
In 1851, Mayfair Taylor John Emary was determined to introduce the latest innovations in his newly opened upmarket store in Regent Street, His main concern was the reliable proofing of outerwear and by 1853, he had developed the very first shower textile. That same year he changed the name of his company to Aquascutum, Latin for 'water shield'. Orders for the stylish raincoats poured in and the Streets of Mayfair were filled with Victorian gentry wearing the "Aquascutum wrapper". Since then, the label has gone from strength to strength and has dressed the elegant and powerful, from aristocracy and political leaders to film stars. These include three Princes of Wales, Prince Rainier of Monaco, Sir Winston Churchill, Baroness Thatcher, Humphrey Bogart and even Cary Grant! The current heads of design are Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler, who have won numerous awards including the GQ style awards.

The Look:
In the words of Aquascutum: "Fine craftsmanship, luxurious tailoring and attention to detail have been applied to all matters sartorial...(Aquascutum has) a quintessentially British point of view for whom the pursuit of style is a way of life."
